The Harlow’s November Workshop Schedule

The Harlow announces their schedule of workshops for the month of November, 2018 including bookbinding, woodblock printmaking, open studio sessions, and Bob Ross paint alongs. Registration is now open for these workshops, held at the Harlow’s new, larger location at 100 Water Street in Hallowell. Pre-registration is required for all workshops unless otherwise stated. The schedule of workshops for November, 2018 is as follows:

Saturdays, November 3 and 17, 10am-12pm: Open Studios: Come make art at the Harlow; bring your own supplies or project, or use any of our large assortment of supplies and materials. The gallery has many inspiring views from inside, outside, deckside and nearby. Both floors of the gallery offer expansive river views. The Harlow has everything from collage materials to button making supplies. We’re very excited to utilize our new space, and think you will be too. Bring a friend and an easel or drawing board and make a morning of it. Open to anyone. $5-$10 Suggested donation. No pre-registration required.

Saturday, November 10,10am-2pm:  Bookbinding with Cynthia Ahlstrin
In this four hour class, join visual book artist Cynthia Ahlstrin, to learn all the steps necessary to create a hardcover hollow back binding, sewn together with a pamphlet style stitch. Participants will also learn to make a simple jig, consider end papers and cover their book with book cloth and decorative paper. This workshop is a great introduction to bookbinding, but also a healthy refresher course for those with some experience in bookbinding. Participants should come prepared with a lunch/snack. Class size is limited to 10 people; ages 16 & up. All materials are included. $60 Members/ $65 Non-Members. Pre-registration required.
Wednesdays, November 7 and 21, 6:30-7:30pm:  Bob Ross Paint Along
Kick back and make art with American painter, art instructor, and television host Bob Ross. Open to all ages and experience levels. Kids must be accompanied by an adult. Participants are welcome to use the Harlow’s materials or bring their own. The goal of these events is to provide a laid back art-making atmosphere while painting along with Bob Ross’ instruction. Ideally, participants will leave with a finished painting. $15 members/$20 non members. Participants may sign up for any amount of sessions; there is no obligation to participate in the entire series. Pre-registration required.
Sundays, November 11 and 18, 10-1:  Intro to Woodblock Printmaking with Jaime Wing

Join local printmaker Jaime Wing for a two-part crash-course in traditional relief printing. Students will come away from the class with a good foundation of the history of block printing and the skills to go forth and create their own prints. Over the course of two sessions, Participants will design and carve their very own wood block and print a small edition of archival-quality prints. Although all materials will be provided, students are encouraged to bring drawings or images of inspiration for their design. No prior printmaking experience required! Class is limited to adults ages 18 & up. All materials are included. $85 Members/ $95 Non-Members. Pre-registration required.
